About Us

Mountain State Agency Alliance (MSAA), a SIAA master agency operating in West Virginia, western Virginia, and eastern Ohio, was established in 1999 by Ramsey Insurance Agency, Inc. of Charleston, WV. As one of the top performing master agencies in the nation, we are a mentoring organization providing direct access to carriers, higher commissions, bonuses, contingencies and overrides.

Ramsey Insurance Agency, Inc. was founded in 1953 and then acquired by William Porter in 1973. In 1983, his daughter Mary joined the business. In 1997, her husband Dan Kerns also joined the business. Today, Dan & Mary Kerns have grown Ramsey Insurance to the strong agency it is today.

Mountain State Agency Alliance was created to help the independent agent remain independent and ease the way for new and captive agents to enter the independent agency world. MSAA follows the family business established by Bill Porter many years ago.
 

Daniel W. Kerns - President
• Received Bachelors degree from West Virginia University
• 16 years as a Realtor
• 15 years experience in the insurance industry as a commercial lines producer and Sales Manager
• Does recruiting of our new ISM members, and advertising and promotion of our network.
• Works with our company partners and on acquiring new company contracts
• Negotiates preferred compensation structures for our network

Mary P. Kerns – Vice-President
• Received Bachelors degree from Wake Forest University
• 30 years experience in the insurance industry with Ramsey Insurance
• President of Ramsey Insurance Agency
• Has worked as both a personal and commercial lines producer, marketing coordinator and office manager
• Oversees the administration of the network, and also works on company relations
• Does meeting planning and education; assists with Commercial Lines underwriting
• Does Agency Management mentoring

Kristin Flowers – VP, Director of Network Development
• Received Bachelors degree in Business Administration from Marshall University
• Over 13 years experience in the insurance industry & personal lines management
• Training & Development for our agencies in WV, OH & VA
• Strategic planning for agents to increase their overall profit and growth
• Quarterly on-site meetings and working daily with members to achieve agency goals
• Training agents on how to quote, sell & service our partner companies
• Reviews agency codes to detect any patterns that could result in increased loss ratios
• Yearly business planning at the local level with each member. Developing marketing plans to assist our members in achieving their maximum potential.

Cindy Marie Funk - Commercial Lines Manager
• Received Bachelors degree in Education from Virginia Commonwealth University
• Commercial Lines Marketing/ Underwriter
• Assists in training for Commercial Lines
• With MSAA since 1999
• Previous experience as marketing coordinator for Acordia and Commercial Lines underwriter for DVUA of WV for 8 years total
• Previous experience in training and research with West Virginia Supreme Court of Appeals, Medical College of Virginia, Virginia Commonwealth University and J Sargeant Reynolds Community College

Jenny Cantrell- Personal Lines Coordinator
• Personal Lines Underwriter for Access Plus
• Assists in training for Personal Lines
• Assists agents with any and all Personal Lines issues
• Previous experience as Personal Lines Agent & as a Brokerage Assistant
• Reviews Agents Books of Business for profitability
• Manages NetWeb input

Chris Kerns - Accountant
• Received Bachelors degree in Accounting from West Virginia Wesleyan College
• Accountant for MSAA & Ramsey Insurance
• Assists agents with any accounting issues and questions
• Managing and reviewing NetWeb reports
• Manages Capitol Premium Finance relationship
• Makes sure everyone gets paid!
 

Launched in 1995 and based on the success of the Satellite Agency Network (SAN), SIAA now has over 4,000 signed independent agencies generating hundreds of millions in new premium business annually.
